The Great War cost many lives. Mostly civilians were killed during raids by Mushroom Kingdom mercenaries. The mercenaries always raid Koopa towns, and cover their tracks to avoid detection. One day, Sapphire Village was attacked by the brutes. Nobody survived. Roy Koopa II, King Fireball's eldest son, went to see if his best friend, Rose Koopbella, was safe. Sadly, she died in the raid. Filled with sorrow, Roy did what he could do. He prepared to burn the house to the ground with Rose's body inside. As the house caught fire, he took her silver ring that she wore; the only thing left to remind him of his friend.
